Visit the Atlantic City Aquarium

Small NJ Aquarium Offers Big Fun at Low Price

With New Jersey’s location on the Atlantic coast being such an integral part of our state’s culture, it only makes sense that we’d be home to a great aquarium or two. Many people have heard of the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, but there’s another awesome aquarium in the Garden State – and it’s right in the heart of Historic Gardner’s Basin in Atlantic City. While considerably smaller than the Camden aquarium, the Atlantic City Aquarium offers big fun for visitors of all ages at a fraction of the cost.

Founded in 1999, the 3 story Atlantic City Aquarium offers visitors the opportunity to get up close and learn more about more than 100 varieties of fish and marine animals. The 25,000 Mid-Atlantic Ocean tank is the centerpiece of the aquarium and features a variety of sea life native to the waters off of New Jersey including cownose rays, grouper, black drum, and – aquarium “star” – Groman, a loggerhead sea turtle. Several touch tanks allow visitors to get hands-on with local species such as juvenile cownose rays, horseshoe crabs, sea urchins, and whelks, as well as docile tropical shark species hailing from the Pacific Ocean. Other exhibits spotlight moon jellies, diamondback terrapins, piranhas, moray eels, clownfish, and more.

One highlight of the Atlantic City Aquarium is Groman, a loggerhead sea turtle.

It’s not just fish at the Atlantic City Aquarium though. You’ll also find animals native to the Amazon rainforest and Australia here. Think boa constrictors, bearded dragons, tarantulas and more.

The aquarium offers live shows daily, including stingray feeding and exotic animal shows. During the “off-season” (October – March), young visitors and their grown-ups can enjoy fishy tales and crafts at Story Time at the Atlantic City Aquarium every Thursday. Special events at the Atlantic City Aquarium include holiday events for Halloween, Easter, and Christmas, as well as events like Family Yoga Day and the popular Chefs At The Shore.

The Atlantic City Aquarium is located in Historic Gardner’s Basin at 800 North New Hampshire Avenue in Atlantic City NJ. The aquarium is open daily (closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day & New Year’s Day) from 10am to 5pm. Admission is $10 for adults (13-61), $7 for seniors (62 & up), $6 for children ages 4-12, and free for children 3 & under. Parking is free.
