The Hopewell Museum displays and preserves what is most typical and interesting of American village life from colonial days to the present. Many of its treasures have been donated by residents of the community and surrounding Mercer County area. The museum’s collection includes charters, deeds, maps, photographs, quilts, furniture, utensils, tools, costumes, toys, signs, weapons, Delaware Indian artifacts, and many other items relating to the history of this quiet, industrious community and its people.
New Jersey State House

Technically, the New Jersey State House is not a museum. However, visitors are invited to tour the New Jersey State House and learn about our Capitol’s evolution from a simple rubble-stone structure built in 1792 to the grand architectural monument of today. Impressive stained glass windows surround portraits of New Jersey’s early Governors. In the Governor’s Reception Room, guests will see portraits of our more recent Governors, as well as the podium used by the Governor for signing bills and making public addresses. Other interesting stops include the Assembly Chamber, the Senate Chamber, the Senate Conference Room, the Painted Ceiling Room, the State House Annex, and the Plaza. Note: Since this is a working capitol, room availability may occasionally be limited by business needs or security concerns.

The Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie Mansion houses a fine collection of art and artifacts related to Trenton’s historical and cultural past and present. Permanent displays include a highly regarded collection of tableware, sanitary ware, and artware produced in the 19th and 20th centuries by Trenton’s prolific ceramics industry. Also on display is a period Victorian room representing an Ellarslie parlor as it may have looked when the building was a private residence in the 1860s. The museum also boasts a fascinating collection of fine arts, decorative arts, industrial memorabilia and historical objects, displayed on a rotating basis in the remaining second-floor galleries. The first floor galleries host changing exhibitions of contemporary art in all media.
