Top Five Things To Do In New Jersey This Week – June 15-21

Happy Monday, New Jersey friends! Well, this weekend we officially welcome summer in New Jersey! I am so excited for the kids to get out of school and for our family to be able to explore New Jersey much more over the next few months! We’ll be kicking summer off this weekend with one (or maybe two!) of the awesome New Jersey events listed below – haven’t been able to decide which ones yet! 1. Annual Reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth
June 20th – 9:30am – 4:30pm

Every year hundreds of reenactors and thousands of history enthusiasts converge at Monmouth Battlefield State Park for the annual reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth, one of the largest conflicts of the American Revolution, which took place on June 28, 1778. The annual reenactment is a full weekend of living history. The army encampments will welcome visitors beginning at 9am. Visitors can watch the soldiers clean their muskets while their women prepare what may be their men’s last meal. Some of the officers may be drilling their men while others prepare for battle. Keep a close eye on your children or they may be drafted into one of the armies! Other fun things to do this at the reenactment include educational and entertaining historical presentations, tours of the camps, and shopping at the sutler (merchant who sells provisions to an army troops) area. The battle takes place each afternoon. Visit the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield online for a full schedule of events. Admission to the Annual Reenactment of the Battle of Monmouth is free; a $10 parking donation is requested to help defray the cost of the annual reenactment.

2. State Fair Meadowlands
June 19th – July 5th

The State Fair Meadowlands kicks off this Friday in East Rutherford and continues its run through July 5th! The fair will feature tons of things to do including the largest Kiddieland in New Jersey for the fair’s youngest visitors as well as thrilling rides for older children and adults, over 50 food vendors serving up delicious meals and snacks, games, shopping, the New Jersey Hall of Fame Mobile Museum, and FREE entertainment including live animal shows, daring acrobats, an Open-Air Thrill Circus, the world-famous Lipizzaner Stallions, live music, and much more! 3. Annual Baymen’s Seafood & Music Festival
June 20th – June 21st

The 23rd Annual Baymen’s Seafood & Music Festival – named one of the Best Outdoor Festivals by NJ Monthly Magazine – takes place this weekend at the Tuckerton Seaport! This annual festival will feature tons of fun things to do for the entire family including boat rides, family activities, exhibits and demonstrations by decoy carvers, boat builders, and commercial fisherman, clam shucking classes, make and take craft activities. Taste delicious “Jersey Fresh” scallops, clams, shrimp, and crabs from the New Jersey’s finest seafood purveyors. Enjoy crafted beers from New Jersey’s River House Brewery at the Brew Court. Listen and dance to the music of local favorites, The Mott’s Creek Pickers (Saturday) and The Billy Walton Band (Sunday). 4. Wings & Wheels Expo 2015

The Wheels & Wings Expo features appearances by World War II airplanes, helicopters and other unique aircraft, military vehicles, vintage and contemporary show cars, as well as live entertainment. The vintage World War II B-17 bomber “Yankee Lady” will be at the Expo again; tours and flights over New York harbor with breathtaking views of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island will be available (visit NJAHOF online for flight info)! This family-friendly event will feature lots of fun things to do including kids’ activities, contests, interesting exhibitions, unique aviation vendors, and a food court. Admission: $15 – Adults / $8 seniors and children under 12 / Free admission for children under 3, veterans wearing VFW or American Legion cap, and active duty military personnel (with ID).

5. BBQ and Brews Festival
June 20th

Discover a variety of new flavorful beers, sample your favorite brews, and enjoy a barbeque feast while you listen to live music by Phillbilly at Crystal Springs Resort’s annual BBQ and Brews Festival this weekend. Festival attendees must be 21 or over. $75 per person; includes entertainment, beer tastings, glass, and barbeque buffet. Lodging discounts are available.
