Top Five Things To Do In New Jersey This Week – June 1-7

Hi there! Welcome to June in New Jersey! The weather is warming up and it’s really starting to feel like the beginning of summer out there. Thoughts are turning to Jersey Fresh produce from our Garden State farms (don’t miss out on yummy Jersey strawberries – find a NJ pick-your-own farm here) and fun summer fairs and festivals. There’s a lot going on around New Jersey this coming week and – lucky you – I’ve rounded up the best events for you right here! Read on for the top five things to do in New Jersey this week

1. New Jersey Renaissance Faire

The 2015 New Jersey Renaissance Faire is back for one final weekend! Step back in time to the 1500’s and the magical village of Crossford, England at the New Jersey Renaissance Faire. Mingle among kings and queens, dukes and duchesses, and common villagers as you witness sword fights, watch a human chess match, view an archery demonstration, and much more. Enjoy live music and dancing; watch as master glassblowers, blacksmiths, and other craftsmen create beautiful handcrafted pieces of art before your eyes; shop amongst over 50 vendors selling fine crafts, clothing, jewelry, and more; indulge in tasty treats like dragon legs, meat pies, and giant pickles on a stick! The New Jersey Renaissance Faire is a weekend full of fun things to do for all ages – daily activities include a costume contest for adults and a children’s show from the Merry Music Makers. You may even encounter characters such as William Shakespeare, Robin Hood, or King Arthur! The New Jersey Renaissaince Faire is an extended event, taking place this weekend as well as the first weekend of June (June 6 & 7). Daily admission to the Faire is $20.00 for adults and $12.00 for children (VIP and season passes are available).

The 22nd annual Montgomery Rodeo is riding back into town! The Montgomery Rodeo is an action-packed day of fun for all ages. In addition to cowboy events like bull riding, bucking broncos, and barrel racing, there are exciting events for kids including the calf scramble and mutton busting. Other fun things to do will include testing your riding skills on the mechanical bull, games, a bounce house, and other fun activities at the Kids’ Carnival. The Montgomery Rodeo is a fundraiser benefitting the Crawford House, Eden Autism Services, Montgomery Township EMS, Montgomery Township PBA, Montgomery Woman’s Club, Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Companies #1 and #2, Rocky Hill First Aid and Rescue, Montgomery Business Association, and the Drift Scholarship Fund. Over the past two decades, the Montgomery Rodeo has raised over $500,000 for local charities. Tickets: $20 – adults; $15 – senior citizens and children ($5 early bird discount available through 6/5 for online ticket purchases and tickets purchased at local businesses – see website for details).

The Barnegat Bay Festival is a free, family-friendly festival that celebrates the Barnegat Bay as a treasured natural resource for all who live here or visit here as tourists. Over 100 environmental organizations will be on hand for a day full of fun and educational activities such as eco-tours, boat rides, touch tanks from Jenkinson’s Aquarium, animal presentations by Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge, arts and crafts activities, a native plant sale, live music, more than 40 eco-vendors, and delicious festival food. Admission to the Barnegat Bay Festival is FREE.

Celebrate the Grounds For Sculptures birthday with family workshops, live music, open artist studios, a Celebration Tour, and other fun activities. Delaware “Bay Day” is the largest free festival in the tri-state region, taking place along the wild and scenic Maurice River in the historic New Jersey fishing villages of Bivalve and Port Norris. East Point Lighthouse in Heislerville will also be a satellite site for this event. Bay Day will be packed with fun things to do including the Bay Day Strut Street Parade, river cruises on the A.J. Meerwald, educational demonstrations and exhibits, live music , Jersey-grown wine tasting, New Jersey beer tastings, mouth-watering Jersey Fresh seafood and other local fare, blue crab races, mini-golf, free crafts, a lighted boat parade, games, races, and contests and fireworks! Free parking with shuttle transport to festival sites. Admission to Bay Day is free!
