Wow – it’s the end of September already! How’d that happen? It sure is starting to feel like fall and we have a lot of traditional New Jersey fall festivals taking place in New Jersey this week. Wine festivals celebrating the New Jersey grape harvest, Chowderfest, and a really unique, super-fun dog-friendly event are just a few of the things to do around the state this week! The top five things to do in New Jersey this week include events and activities that are sure to appeal to people of all ages and interests. Here they are…

Head to Appel Farm Art and Music Center to enjoy a beautiful autumn day at the Appel Farm Music & Wine Festival. Festival-goers will have the opportunity to sample hundreds of wines from a host of New Jersey wineries including Amalthea Cellars, Auburn Road Vineyard & Winery, Bellview Winery, Coda Rossa Winery, DiMatteo Vineyards, Hawk Haven Vineyard & Winery, Monroeville Vineyard & Winery, Plagido’s Winery, Southwind Vineyard, Tomasello Winery, Villari Vineyards, and Wagonhouse Winery. Fantastic live bands and solo artists will perform on Appel Farm’s Meadow Stage throughout the day; artists will include No Good Sister, Swing that Cat, Nancy Micciulla, and Steppin’ Razor.

Dog and family-friendly activities will include Ultimate Air Dogs dock diving, superhero-themed contests, Lure for a Cure lure racing benefiting the National Canine Cancer Foundation, Disc-Connected K9s-World Famous Frisbee Dogs, agility competitions and demonstrations, demonstrations by dog experts, dog product and service vendors, a special kids’ activity area, a food court, canine entertainment, and much more! Looking to adopt a dog? Rescues and shelters will be present with adoptable dogs. Fall in love with your new best friend and be a real superhero by giving a dog in need a forever home.

3. The Lord Stirling 1770s Festival

Return to the 18th century and experience daily colonial life and craft industry in Somerset County at the annual Lord Stirling 1770s Festival. Watch as colonial craftspeople practice their trades. Get the local news from the Town Crier. Observe a Revolutionary War Military detachment as they conduct maneuvers and camp on the lawn of Lord Stirling’s estate. See dozens of authentic artifacts discovered on site by archeologists. There will be fun things to do for children including clay crafts, hayrides, tin piercing, stenciling, colonial games, and more. Food and cold drinks will be available.

Chowderfest has become an annual Jersey shore fall tradition. This fun family-friendly fall festival features live music, children’s entertainment, and UNLIMITED chowder tasting! Each ticket holder will have the chance to vote for their favorite red and white chowder. Chowderfest is held rain or shine.

The Garden State Wine Growers Association will hold the Grand Harvest Festival at Fosterfields Living History Farm in Morristown on October 4th and 5th from 12-5pm each day. The festival features 20 terrific NJ wineries, local foods, fun things to do for kids, live music, and a full slate of food and wine talks and demonstrations sponsored by edible Jersey magazine.
