If/Then

Union County Performing Arts Center
Hamilton Stage
360 Hamilton Street
Rahway NJ
8:00pm

That’s the funny thing about life-changing moments – they might not seem so life-changing at the time. Maybe taking a walk in the park means meeting the love of your life. Maybe calling an old friend means starting a whole new career. Or maybe the difference is as simple as what name you’d like to be called. For Elizabeth Vaughan, that exact choice proves to be the turning point between two very different lives. After her divorce, Elizabeth moves to New York City for a fresh start. There, she meets kindergarten teacher Kate, who suggests she adopt the nickname “Liz,” and reconnects with her old friend Lucas, who prefers “Beth.” The musical then splits to follow Liz as she takes Kate’s suggestion to pursue new experiences, and Beth as she listens to Lucas and develops her professional relationships. Exploring the way small decisions add up to major consequences and questioning the nature of fate and destiny, If/Then speaks to anyone who has ever wondered “what if?”

Shawn Colvin With Joan Osborne

Ocean City Music Pier
82 Boardwalk
Ocean City NJ
7:00pm

Two of the most powerful women in folk-rock team up for one amazing night at New Jersey’s Ocean City Music Pier. Much more than just another girl with a guitar, Shawn Colvin’s unique blend of pop and personal confession earned her a Grammy for her debut album, then catapulted her into the mainstream when her 1997 single Sunny Came Home hit the airwaves, winning both Record and Song of the Year in ’98. She recently won an Americana Trailblazer Award, recorded a disc with Steve Earle and is celebrating the re-release of her groundbreaking A Few Small Repairs disc. Eight-time Grammy nominee Joan Osborne is also best known for her hit single, One of Us, but she’s maintained a devoted following ever since, thanks to her whip-smart lyrics and heartfelt rock-R&B sound. Her recent vintage soul album, Bring It On Home, was nominated for a Best Americana Album Grammy, and she’s toured alongside Mavis Staples. Her latest is a much-anticipated collection of Bob Dylan covers.
