Things To Do In New Jersey – The Hoboken Fire Department Museum

Recently, Things To Do in New Jersey introduced you to the Hoboken Historical Museum. If you’re looking for more things to do in the Hoboken area, there’s another New Jersey museum that’s worth a visit – the Hoboken Fire Department Museum.

Kids and adults alike will enjoy this New Jersey museum. By far, the star attraction is the shiny red, fully restored, 1932 Ahrens Fox antique fire engine. Kids will get a thrill out of sitting in this “Cadillac of fire engines” (adults are allowed to climb aboard too) and ringing the big brass bell.

Also on display at the Hoboken Fire Museum is a vast collection of firefighting gear and fire department memorabilia documenting the tools and techniques used by Hoboken’s bravest in battling fires over the course of its 160+ year history. The collection also includes a large display of postcards, photographs and news clippings documenting fires fought by the Hoboken Fire Department in the city’s homes, waterfront piers, and working factories. You can even see a framed 1947 photo of a fire captain by the name of Marty Sinatra on a fire truck with his son, who at the time was one of the most famous entertainers in the world.

The Hoboken Fire Department Museum was created and is cared for by Hoboken’s retired firefighters and is staffed by the Hoboken Historical Museum.

Visit the Hoboken Fire Department Museum at 213 Bloomfield Street in Hoboken NJ. The museum is open weekends between noon and 5pm. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children under 12. For more information, visit the museum online .
