Did you know that the blueberry is the official state fruit of New Jersey? And for good reason – the first commercially cultivated blueberries were developed right in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens! To me, THE taste of summer in New Jersey is a handful (or bucketful) of freshly-picked, juicy, delicious blueberries.

Picking blueberries is one of my favorite things to do in New Jersey during the summer. It’s easy (no bending) and there are loads of pick your own blueberry farms in New Jersey! Here’s a few pick your own blueberry farms in NJ that are sure to satisfy your hankering for some Jersey Blues…

Where to Find Pick Your Own Blueberry Farms in South Jersey

Haines Berry Farm

Haines Berry Farm provides free wagon rides out to the blueberry field. Assorted blueberry products such as jams, jellies, honey, chocolate covered blueberries and plants also available.

Mood’s Farm Market

Mood’s Farm Market is open 8am – 7pm, Monday through Saturday for blueberry picking. Bring a bucket, a box, or another sturdy container for picking and transporting blueberries. They do not allow picking in bags.

DiMeo Farms is an organic New Jersey pick-your-own  blueberry farm. Blueberry picking is by appointment only – call first. Berry pints provided for picking or bring your own picking bucket. Bring a container to transport your blueberries home. Blueberry bushes are also available for purchase from DiMeo Farms.

Other things to do include Discovery Barnyard / Animal Farm (climbing structures, shaded eating area, pipe slide, wacky bridge, rope maze, balance beam, tire climb, and animal feeding), sweet corn and peach picking. Farm offers special events such as classic car shows and barbeques.

Terhune Orchards is open for blueberry picking from 9am-5pm, Tuesday through Sunday. A “Read and Pick” program (combines a story time with blueberry picking for young children) available. Other things to do include visiting barnyard animals, playing on pedal tractors, walking the farm trail, and wagon and pony rides (during farm festivals).

Phillips Farms is open for blueberry picking from 8am – 6pm Wednesday through Monday (closed Tuesdays). Stop at farm stand prior to picking to get containers for blueberry picking and directions to the various pick your own fields.
