Spirit of the Jerseys State History Fair Returns This Month!

Award-Winning NJ History Fair Features Fun Activities For All Ages

Looking for an awesome event where you can learn all about the fascinating history of New Jersey from its early days all the way up through modern times? Then you MUST visit the Spirit of the Jerseys State History Fair – an exciting historical festival for all ages where visitors can experience five centuries of New Jersey’s history all in one place!

This free, award-winning event takes place at Monmouth Battlefield State Park on Saturday, May 13th from 11:00am to 5:00pm (rain or shine). The Spirit of the Jerseys History Fair is a fun-filled adventure into New Jersey’s past with living history demonstrations, military re-enactors, tours, exhibits, period music and dance, and historical organizations and museums from around the state.

This year’s fair will commemorate the 100th anniversary of WWI with several special programs including music of the era, a one-man stage production featuring President Woodrow Wilson and a reading of New Jersey poet Joyce Kilmer’s poetry. Other exciting new programs will feature a program on the role of Fort Monmouth during WWI and a presentation on Ann Baumgartner Carl, a Jersey girl who trained as a Women Airforce Service Pilot (WASP) during WWII.

There are plenty of hands-on activities for kids and adults, from participating in historical games to plowing a furrow or participating in a military drill.  Don’t miss the opportunity to meet such historical figures as Harriet Tubman, President Teddy Roosevelt, Alice Paul, Dr. James Still, Walt Whitman, President Woodrow Wilson, Molly Pitcher and George Washington.

A complete list of fun things to do and see at the Spirit of the Jerseys History Fair can be found here. Admission to the fair is free; there is a suggested parking donation of $10 per vehicle.

Monmouth Battlefield State Park is located at 16 Business Route 33 in Manalapan, NJ.

The Spirit of the Jerseys History Fair is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Historic Sites, Division of Parks and Forestry, and its partners.
