Well, a while back I posted an awesome list of things to do on Father’s Day in New Jersey (you can check that out here). Unfortunately, the weather forecast does not look promising for many of the outdoor events that are taking place on Sunday. :( Luckily for you, there are lots of great indoor places to celebrate Father’s Day in New Jersey and I’ve put together a list of them for you right here. Read on for places to celebrate Father’s Day in New Jersey on a rainy day.

New Jersey State Museum

Spend Father’s Day at the New Jersey State Museum. The museum is fun for all ages and there are special family programs on the weekend. The museum is known for being four museums in one with extensive collections in history (with a large part of that collection covering the history of New Jersey of course), fine arts, and natural history, as well as a state of the art planetarium with shows several times a day. Admission to the New Jersey State Museum is free for children 12 and under. There is a suggested $5 donation for adults. Planetarium shows are $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The Princeton University Art Museum’s collections include over 92,000 works of art, ranging from ancient art to contemporary art. The museum offers printed guides to each gallery that are designed to help children have fun while learning about the objects in the museum collections. Children receive a passport to the museum at the entrance and receive a stamp in the appropriate area of the passport on completion of the activities in the gallery guides. Celebrate Father’s Day at the Atlantic City Aquarium! and Visitors of all ages will love the 25,000 gallon “Fish of the Mid-Atlantic” exhibit featuring a “Dive and Dine” show during which visitors can watch as the aquarium diver feeds and swims with rays, sharks, and other fish. Other exhibits include the Mullica River Tank (featuring aquatic species native to the NJ Pine Barrens), the Shark and Ray Touch Tank, and the Tropical Rainforest exhibit. Air Victory Museum

The Air Victory Museum highlights the history of air travel beginning with the Wright brothers’ historic first flight through present-day aviation. Located in an airplane hangar at the South Jersey Regional Airport, the museum displays authentically restored aircraft (including a McDonnell-Douglas A-4F Skyhawk II flown by the Blue Angels!) as well as full-sized replicas of historic aircraft. The Air Victory Museum also houses the Gallery of Aviation History featuring artwork, photographs, and news articles which give visitors a chronological view of the evolution of aircraft. You can also see an extensive collection of military uniforms representing every service branch in the United States Military as well as many personal items belonging to service members dating from WWI to the present. Hoboken Historical Museum

If Dad and other members of the family enjoy New Jersey history, the Hoboken Historical Museum is a great Father’s Day destination. The small northern New Jersey museum celebrates the history of Hoboken (of course) and its significance to the surrounding New Jersey metropolitan area. The museum is located in one of the oldest buildings on the Hoboken waterfront, the former Bethlehem Steel machine shop, which is now known as “the Shipyard”. Father’s Day at the Hoboken Historical Museum is Family Fun Day, featuring entertainment by puppeteers from PuppetHeap, who will provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how puppeteers work. Other fun activities will include playing a game of flukie ball or a traditional street game and creating fun hats, crazy glasses, patriotic wands, and paper pattern snakes. Hoboken Fire Department Museum

After you visit the Hoboken Historical Museum, head on over to the Hoboken Fire Department Museum! This Hoboken treasure was created and is cared for by Hoboken’s retired firefighters and is staffed by the Hoboken Historical Museum. The highlight of this museum is a fully restored 1932 Ahrens Fox antique fire engine. Everyone gets a thrill out of sitting in this “Cadillac of fire engines” and ringing the big brass bell. The Hoboken Fire Museum also houses an extensive collection of firefighting gear and fire department memorabilia documenting the tools and techniques used by Hoboken’s bravest men and women in battling fires over the course of its 160+ year history. If Dad (and/or the kids) loves planes, then the Naval Air Station (NAS) Wildwood Aviation Museum is a great destination for a rainy Father’s Day at the Jersey shore. See more than 30 aircraft displays as well other fun, interactive exhibits like “How Planes Fly” (formerly on display at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia).
