Raritan Headwaters Association’s Stream Cleanup

Multiple locations around the watershed in Hunterdon, Somerset, and Morris Counties.

Celebrate Earth Day by cleaning up local streams and rivers! Each spring Raritan Headwaters Association organizes cleanup programs to protect water quality and promote public stewardship of local streams and rivers. This year’s stream cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 9 am until 12 pm at multiple locations around the watershed in Hunterdon County, Somerset County, and Morris County. Celebrate Earth Day in Hunterdon County with a variety of fun outdoor activities! Partake in a stream study to catch insects and crayfish in the Prescott Brook with NJ Water Authority and the NJ Watershed Ambassadors. Make some nature crafts at the art tables. Visit the 4-H animals. Join the 4-H robotics club as they demonstrate their robot, or the Deadeyes for some archery practice. Go behind the scenes and learn how the weather forecast is produced for television with meteorologist John Marshall. There will also be a Pond Paddle on the Echo Hill Pond with our affiliate, the Hunterdon County Canoe Club. Tickets are required for a timeslot and are only available that day on a first come/first serve basis. The day concludes with a wild animal presentation by Eyes of the Wild.

The park naturalist will lead an Earth Day hike in the Bulls Island Natural Area along the Delaware and Raritan Canal and the Delaware River. The hike will end on the Roebling designed pedestrian bridge for visitors to enjoy the scenic view of the river.

Spring Volunteer Day at Musconetcong Mountain

The Hunterdon County recently acquired a new parcel that connects to Musconetcong Mountain Preserve on Ellis Road in Holland Township. Celebrate Earth Day by helping to create a new hiking trail through this property. Volunteers may bring their own loppers and gloves, but tools will be available. Through generous donations, volunteers will enjoy a light breakfast and full lunch. Visit the Hunterdon County Parks Calendar for a program registration form to sign up for this event. This activity is recommended for ages 12 and over.
